U.S. seeks to extradite Belizean
A Belizean on the run from American law enforcement authorities hit a brick wall this week and tonight is enjoying the comforts of Hattieville prison. Although he is listed as number fifteen on the U.S. Marshal’s Most Wanted List and is described as a career violent criminal, the fine print reveals that thirty-one year old Michael Emerson Webster is wanted in the state of Illinois for violating the terms of his probation on a sexual assault conviction. Belize police were tipped off to Webster’s whereabouts and on Monday evening officers from the Central Intelligence Unit picked him up at a home in Ladyville where he had been staying. Webster has been remanded to Hattieville prison pending extradition to the United States for prosecution. According to the U.S. Marshal’s press release, Webster has been known to use several aliases including Big Boy, Woody G. and Jason Wright. Prior to his arrest, he was considered armed and dangerous by the United States Department of Justice. Unlike the recent official snatching of two Belizeans wanted in the states for major drug offences, the legal process of extradition can often take a number of months.
