Major pot farms go up in smoke
Some ambitious farmers in the Corozal District are having major headaches this weekend following the total destruction of their valuable cash crop. Their problem, of course, stems from the fact that what they were growing was marijuana. On Wednesday morning police swooped down on six weed plantations located near the settlement of Little Belize and proceeded to uproot and burn a total of twenty-five thousand marijuana trees, each measuring between six and eight feet in height. That’s a lot of smoke. No one was in the area, although a separate police report indicates that later on that evening, also near Little Belize, authorities detained three men carrying a crocus sack that turned out to contain around twenty pounds of cannabis. The trio was detained pending drug trafficking charges.
