Accused Hilux Thief Remanded Over Gun Charge

Twenty-year-old Melchor de Mencos, Peten resident Marlon Benedicto Portillo, has been charged for the offenses of “kept ammunition without a gun license” and “kept firearm without a gun license.” The Guatemalan national is one of two bandits that tried to steal a Toyota Hilux belonging to Omar Jimenez back on July eighth. An alert Jimenez contacted the police who deployed several mobile teams to the area and caught up with the thieves on the Calla Creek Road, where they had experienced an accident in the stolen pickup. A shootout between police and the Guatemalan bandits led to Portillo’s accomplice, thirty-seven-year-old Erwin Rene Huex being shot once to the chest; Huex succumbed on the scene. Portillo was arraigned and has since been remanded to the Central Prison in Hattieville.
