More Traffic Mishaps: U.S. Citizen is Killed in Towhead Collision

The other fatal RTA occurred on Saturday afternoon in Stann Creek. Police arrived on the scene near the junction to the Bocawina National Park in Silk Grass where they saw the body of eighteen-year-old U.S. National Devin Robert Merriell. According to police, Merriell who was riding a rented motor cycle came out of the Bocawina junction and on to the highway. He went into the lane of an oncoming tow head driven at the time by Abraham Friesen of Guinea Grass. Merriell sustained severe injuries to the head and body and died on the spot. Friesen has since been served with a notice of intended prosecution.

Meanwhile, there were other traffic accidents over the weekend that fortunately weren’t fatal. Twenty-one-year-old Jorge Rodriguez and his female passenger were seriously injured following a traffic mishap around three-thirty on Saturday afternoon in Saint Margaret Village. As the duo rode on a black and blue lifan motorcycle on the Hummingbird Highway, Rodriguez lost control of the motorbike and collided into the metal railing.  Rodriguez sustained a large cut wound to the left hand and head, while his unidentified companion sustained a fractured jaw, multiple cut wounds to the head and face and abrasions to the chest. Both remain hospitalized at the Western Regional Hospital in a stable condition.
