S.J.C. holds art classes for teachers
This summer Saint John’s College is inviting teachers, parents and children to improve their artistic talents by attending a special art programme. This is the second time the college will offer the courses, five of which are designed especially for teachers and two targeted at children. According to coordinator Dianne Lindo, the programme, which runs from June thirtieth to July eleventh, will be taught by S.J.C. art teachers and a visiting professor from the United States.

“We would like to reach out to teachers and be able to impact the way art is taught in our schools. We want to make teachers more confident in teaching art in the schools. We would like to have children to have outlets for their artistic talent in the schools, so that’s the whole idea behind it. We also want to see what we can do with art using art as a vehicle for other things as well.”
“We are having our ceramics instructor, Damian Perdomo, doing part of the intro course and a specific course on wheel throwing in ceramics. We are having one of our art teachers, David Anderson, doing again part of the intro course on drawing and painting and a section on advanced painting. Then we are having a professor from East Carolina University, Dr. Cynthia Beekly Green, who is doing an innovative programme on using art to teach math and science concepts.”
