Recreational Marijuana User Takes Additional Jail Time

He says he uses marijuana to relax his mind. But Aaron Flowers was sentenced to further jail time on a charge of possession of controlled substances after changing his plea in court today. Flowers elected to take the plea rather than face trial for possession of six point six grams of cannabis which he was seen trying to dispose of when he spotted the police on May sixth, 2015. Flowers is already serving a six-month sentence for a previous drug-related offense and following the change in plea, Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer gave him another three months to run concurrently with the longer sentence. The Senior Magistrate told Flowers that regardless of his excuses, marijuana is illegal in Belize and cannot be used for medicinal purposes or otherwise. Officers spotted Flowers on Antelope Street and as they approached, they saw him throw something in his right hand to the ground. They promptly conducted a search on him and found nothing, but in the area where they had seen him disposing of something on the ground which they found the transparent plastic bag containing the suspected cannabis.
