Dangriga’s Nisani Garcia Acquitted of 2014 Murder Charges
Also from the Supreme Court, on Wednesday Dangriga resident Nisani Garcia was acquitted of a murder charge following trial before Justice Denis Hanomansingh. He was accused of the shooting death of Hansel Garcia in April of 2014. It is not clear if they are related. Hansel Garcia, also known as “Mission,” was shot while walking through Castillo Alley at night and he told police from his hospital bed that Nisani Garcia shot him several times, including the fatal shot to the back. Justice Hanomansingh, trying the case alone, was of the view that according to the evidence presented at trial, lighting conditions in the alley were poor on the night of the shooting and it was possible that Hansel Garcia identified the wrong man. Nisani Garcia spoke from the dock in his own defense and denied being anywhere near the crime scene. He was represented by Tricia Pitts-Elrington.
