New exercise books feature stamps

Story Picture
With the summer holidays less than a month away, chances are Belize’s primary school students are not thinking about school supplies for next term. But that hasn’t stopped the Angelus Press from launching this year’s exercise book series. According to the stationery company, the books were produced in association with the Belize Postal Service. The blanks feature prominent figures in Belize’s history such as Gwendolyn Lizarraga; mark milestones like the Battle of St. George’s Caye and portray mythical characters like Tata Duende. Sales and Marketing Manager at the Angelus Press, Glory Hernandez, says the books will make it into school bags for several reasons.

“Normally, every year our back to school season starts maybe June, July of which we release a new exercise book. This year we thought we would go a different route and do something that is culturally based and something that is not only targeted towards students, but targeted towards the adults as well.”

Emelia Cayetano, Philatelic Supervisor, Bz. Postal Service

“This series of exercise books depicts three series from the Belize Postal Service Stamps. It depicts first the eminent Belizeans. We have the folklore series and we also have the Battle of St. George’s Caye, the two hundredth anniversary of the Battle of St. George’s Caye.”

“I think it’s a very good move and we would like to encourage other businesses in the promotion of stamp collection in Belize. And this is one way how stamp collecting can be promoted for this century and beyond.”

The exercise books sell for six dollars and sixty cents a dozen or sixty cents each.
