P.S.U. Re-Instates Apologetic Eldred Neal
An official mediation between members of the Council of Management of the Public Service Union and its president, Eldred Neal, took place on Saturday in Belmopan. An official statement from the Union issued today confirms that Neal has been reinstated as president of the P.S.U. up to and in time for the ninety-fifth annual general meeting scheduled for August nineteenth, also in Belmopan at the National Show Grounds. In May, Neal was recorded making derogatory remarks about Garifuna members of the Union to two other union leaders, Marvin Mora and Lorelei Westby. Neal has now apologized for his “discriminatory” comments against the Garinagu people and Garifuna members of the Council. But he will not be allowed to chair the annual general meeting after making his customary presentation. Elections are scheduled for the post of president among others. The mediation was conducted by Solicitor General Nigel Hawke.
