Mennonite woman critical after robbery attempt
Tonight, a mother of three is fighting for her life in the Northern Regional Hospital while the cowards who shot her have yet to be arrested. According to police, just after eight on Friday night, two masked men, one brandishing a shotgun, walked into the yard of the Peters family in Little Belize in the Corozal District. The duo approached forty-one year old John Peters and demanded money. Peters said he had none and tried to walk away, but without warning the gunman fired a shot. The blast missed Peters, but pellets penetrated the wall of the house. Unaware of what was happening outside, forty-one year old Elena Peters was sitting in the living room when she was struck in the head and fell to the floor. The shooter and his accomplice quickly disappeared, while Elena Peters was rushed to the Corozal hospital. She has subsequently been transferred to the Northern Regional in Orange Walk where hospital authorities tell News 5 that her condition is critical. At news time tonight no arrests had been made.
