Carnival route is finally settled
September ninth’s Carnival Road March will be returning to the Marion Jones Sporting Complex for the first time in many years, but it will take a new route to get there. The Belize City Council and the Carnival Association hosted the press at City Hall this afternoon to provide an update on their plans along the route, including parking and vending issues. Willoughby also took the opportunity to assure that two of the crime hotspots along the route – Mayflower Street and to a lesser extent Conch Shell Bay – will be on their best behavior on Carnival Day.

“We drove the route again which is Caesar Ridge Road, Central American Boulevard, right into Vernon Street, left into Bel-China Bridge onto Douglas Jones, through Cinderella Plaza, on to Kelly Street, Baymen Avenue, Princess Margaret Drive. What the council will be doing and I apologize for my colleague BQ Pitts who isn’t here and councilor Cuellar a flyer will be distributed along the route to notify the residents of the new Carnival route to ask them not have their vehicle parked along the Carnival route that is one. Secondly we look forward to all those who will be conducting any business along the route to kindly contact the council or the Carnival Commission to deal with those matters as they arise. I say quite the contrary I visit that area on a normal day every day and I have no problem with them, I don’t see them as criminals maybe from what you are seeing, We know the carnival is a fun filled family event, I have been speaking with those young men through there and for the most part I don’t believe it will be a problematic day for them, nor for the revelers, not for any participants in the Carnival.”
Association Vice President Patrick Thompson said the only area of concern were two high-tension wires strung low over Baymen Avenue which B.E.L. will be asked to tighten. In any event, DJ’s are being told not to pile their speakers too high to avoid any electrical issues.
