Divided Football Federation seeks to heal wounds at extraordinary congress

Marlon Kuylen

Back in June the tenth general congress of the Football Federation of Belize dissolved into uncertainty as a majority of the Federation’s members decided to boycott the process, which would have included the selection of a new president and other members of the executive. Former executive member Sergio Chuc led the boycott after he was denied a chance to run in the election. But an extraordinary meeting has been called for this coming Saturday, September second at the Ramada Princess Hotel in Belize City to take care of the other items on the agenda that could not be addressed in June. Acting President Marlon Kuylen says he will continue in that post until all the dust has settled from selections to the ethics, elections and electoral appeals boards of the Federation.

“Fifty percent of our affiliates requested that we have an extraordinary congress, seeing that the ordinary congress was aborted. and the items on the agenda are the same items that did not get approved at the ordinary congress, and those include: approval of 2016 ordinary congress minutes; approval of the president’s activity report; review of the 2015 & 2016 financial reports; approval of the 2017 budget; review and approval of the strategic plan; dismissals of a few persons; removal and replacement of some members of the electoral & electoral appeals committee and election of the ethics committee.”

“At this point is there any timetable for the election of a new executive of the Federation?”

Marlon Kuylen

“Not as yet. Once we get over the extraordinary congress and we get our ship right, then we have to allow that the people that are elected to familiarize themselves with their roles for the ethics, electoral and electoral appeal committee, and then from there then we set the date for the elections.”

The current executive is led by Kuylen, joined by footballer Shane Moody Orio, Darlene Vernon, Ray Davis and Anthony Mahler.
