Police Clamp Down for September; Mediators Involved
There were simultaneous meet and greets taking place all over the south side of Belize City. While we caught up with Senior Superintendent Vidal on Lindo’s Alley, officers were also on the ground on Love, Pride and Sweet Avenue, and surrounding areas. Vidal says gang activities have raised alarm among residents especially with the upcoming September celebrations.
Sr. Supt. Marco Vidal, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South
“There are certain areas that are a little bit tense because of the friction that’s occurring between rival gangs but we intend to do everything that is necessary to bring that to a halt and we will. This September festivities will attract a number of people and unfortunately it will also attract persons who have nefarious intentions and we will certainly address those. The intervention and mediation program is a part of what we are doing. As you know there is this challenge in the Jane Usher area and we have brought in the body that is responsible for intervention and media and I think that we are making headway in that regard. Unfortunately a lot of this is not public but that has been happening for some time; what we are doing is getting them more involved in these things as they are occurring.”
