Convicted man to be retried on manslaughter charge

Story PictureAnd in the court of appeals today, Attorney Alifa Elrington made a successful case on behalf twenty year old Steven Manzanero, who was convicted of Manslaughter last May. Manzanero had been sentenced to fifteen years in connection with the stabbing of Levy Quewell on the night of March twenty-sixth 2005. But in Manzanero’s appeal hearing, it was brought out that Quewell’s death could have been the result of treatment he received at the San Ignacio Hospital and the trial judge should have let the jury decide whether the doctor was to face any charges. Doctor Mario Estradabran, who did the post mortem, testified that the doctor who treated Quewell left two wounds on his body that leaked infectious matter and made him unable to keep urine in his bladder. The Court of Appeals has ordered a retrial for Manzanero.
