New road helps Toledo villagers
Earlier this week we covered the dedication of a new road to the village of More Tomorrow in the Cayo District. Tonight, we take note of another road project just completed in the Toledo District. On Tuesday, ceremonies were held to mark the completion of eight miles of all weather road to the village of Dolores. Dolores, one of the nation’s remotest villages, was previously accessible only by foot or horse along a jungle trail. Some five hundred residents will benefit from the project…and according to Toledo East Representative Mike Espat, their patience has been appreciated.

“This road to the village of Dolores¼construction of it has been a challenging one. And the people of this village have been waiting for this bridge for a long time, a long time; when I say that, twenty, twenty-five years.”
“But it was not something that could have been done overnight. The road from Blue Creek to Santa Teresa, from Santa Teresa to Otoxha had to be in place before we could even address the problem of Dolores. Today we have been able to accomplish that.”
“Now they will have transportation to and from Punta Gorda town where they could take in their crops, whatever it is, tomatoes, cabbage, whatever they produce in this area and could get it to the market in Punta Gorda town.”
The road was constructed at a cost of one hundred thousand dollars. Also speaking at the ceremony was Minister of Works Vildo Marin and Village Chairman Pedro Cucul.
