Lilian Salazar is KTV the Remix Champion!
KTV, the Remix, closed with a bang on Tuesday night with the big announcement of who the people had chosen as this season’s KTV champ. It came down to four worthy finalists, from where a mother of three from Las Flores, Belmopan, won the people’s hearts. Lillian Salazar took home ten thousand dollars, the trophy and a slew of prizes. News Five’s Duane Moody captures the announcement on Tuesday night and looks at how Lillian evolved from a shy singer to the champ.

Lillian Salazar, a humbleBelmopanwife and mother of three children won the title as the first champion for Channel Five’s new summer entertainment show, KTV the Remix. After nine rounds of competition and tackling different genres including Motown, Alternative, Disco and famous Belizean tracks – and not to mention the exciting experience of creating their own track – Lillian roared back on Tuesday night at the Saint Catherine’s Academy with a blowout performance of Katy Perry’s hit single.

“I was feeling so [sigh]. I don’t even know how I felt. It was nerve-wrecking. I didn’t know what to expect. I really didn’t know what to expect. I just knew that if I lost of if I won, I was going to cry. So I honestly didn’t know what was going to happen yesterday. I didn’t want to expect anything because it was going to be unexpected in sort of a way.”
Throughout the competition, Salazar took the critiques from the expert judges and improved her performance, taking the top votes twice this season. She says she had to rise to the challenge because competitors like Hano also brought props and performance to the stage.

“Hano pushed us; it was kinda like a challenge for me seeing Hano go up there and perform and I took it like an inspiration for me to just try and do the same. For the first performance that I did, I was just frozen at that spot; I was just singing. I didn’t know what to do; it was my first time ever. And yes, I did see him as an inspiration into performing better.”
The Las Flores,Belmopanresident is a hard working entrepreneur, who provides for her family by making tamales and rice and beans in the capital on the weekends. The ten thousand dollars cash, among other prizes, is a payoff for sacrifices made.

“I do work very hard at home throughout the day, but at night I get to go out and I see everybody that’s out partying, and everybody would stop by the stall and everybody would come out and say hi. It’s something that I do; I really enjoy what I do. I’m out there selling food; it’s so nice to see people eating my food, enjoying it. Whenever I’m not working on weekends, I have Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday off, I try to spend all that time at home with my kids, when my husband’s here, when he’s not working we try to do everything family – we would go to the river, we would go anywhere. But I’m really stuck to my family than anything else.”
Taking second place in the competition was Punta Gorda’s Gareth Jacobs, while Lisandra Gutierrez of Orange Walk came third with Hano Lin rounding out the top four finalists for KTV the Remix. Duane Moody for News Five.
