Police aim to disarm criminals on Southside

When we spoke with Superintendent Arzu, we also asked him about the increasing number of weapons and drugs recently seized, retrieved primarily from empty or abandoned lots. Arzu says that it appears that those empty lots are being craftily used by criminals, but police are dismantling their activities by targeting these lots.

“One of the things that we are focused on as well is that of the interdiction of firearms and drugs off the street. That is one of the plagues within the streets and in areas that are somewhat deemed to be troublesome. Interdiction for us is of paramount importance because we are disarming those who intend to  commit the crimes out there and if we can keep it that way to ensure that we go after the drugs that they are distributing that very well will be a good one for us and equally the firearms that are out there. Firearms are the weapons they use to go at each other and once we have good intelligence to locate those, we certainly would pursue it. You will see that the discovery often is at abandon lots because the criminals are getting smarter and smarter, simply because they wouldn’t want to be caught with these things, so they put them somewhere that they believe even if the Police would recover them they would not be in their possession. So, that is the type of intelligence that we are moving at, to know where the firearm and the drugs are so we go at it to disable their activities and their movements.”
