Plant pots not appreciated on Albert St.
A beautification project financed by the Belize City Council and being implemented by the Young Men’s Christian Association has hit a speed bump on the road to completion. Over the last three weeks a group of energetic young men have been busy in the downtown area hanging up plants along North Front Street, painting the fence at St. Mary’s Church and erecting plant holders along Albert Street. But before they were done putting up the cement boxes, the Y has been forced to halt construction after complaints from the Belize City Traffic Department that the fixtures were interfering with parking on the already congested streets. At least one had already been damaged by a well-placed bumper. Officials at the Y.M.C.A. tell News 5 that they have temporarily suspended the building of the plant boxes pending word from Executive Director Carolyn Gentle.
