Suspect detained for M-16 and ammo
A police patrol on the Northern Highway on Sunday stumbled across a small armoury and may have its owner in custody. According to police reports, the patrol observed a red car, which made an abrupt turn as the cops approached. The suspicious behaviour led the police to follow the car into a parking lot, but before they got close, the driver was seen fleeing the area. Whoever was in the car had good reason to check out, because when the officers searched it they found one M-16 rifle along with sixty-nine rounds of matching ammunition, fifty, thirty-eight calibre bullets, ten rounds of nine millimetre ammo, a camouflage jacket and a driver’s license.
This morning the owner of that license, a prominent sports figure, showed up at the police station to claim his vehicle. The police, sceptical of his story, detained the man and continue to investigate.
In case you were wondering, police say the M-16 rifle discovered in Sunday’s incident was not one of a pair stolen on April seventh from the B.D.F. armoury at Price Barracks.
