“New Horizons” closes in Dangriga

Story Picture
The sound of Blackhawk helicopters will no longer be heard over Dangriga, but what will remain are new classrooms and a community centre. The improvements are the result of a U.S. military humanitarian exercise dubbed New Horizons 2003. Today closing ceremonies for the three month operation were held and for Prime Minister Said Musa it was a sign of close relations with a major ally.

Prime Minister Said Musa

“We see this collaboration as a very important gesture of the excellent relations that exist between Belize and the United States of American and between our two governments, and especially too between the peoples of the United States of America and the Belizean people. So I thank you all for the very excellent work that you have carried out over the past several months and I say let us continue with this kind of collaboration. We welcome this, just as much as we welcome the presence of Peace Corps in our country, just as how we welcome the activities, the collaboration that we see with U.S.A.I.D. and Belize.”

New Horizons also provided free medical care to residents of a number of villages in the Stann Creek District. Members of the Belize Defence Force also participated in the exercise.
