Govt pulls the plug on Luke Espat’s Commerce Bight
There’s a breaking story tonight on the ongoing battle between the Government and businessman Luke Espat, and it has to do with the Commerce Bight Port. Late this evening News Five received a copy of a letter dated June second and addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Belize Limited, Raineldo Guerrero. The letter, signed by Ports Commissioner, Major Lloyd Jones, reminds the Port of Belize that the Minister of Public Utilities, NEMO, Transport and Communications, Melvin Hulse, on March nineteenth, 2008 revoked a lease for the Commerce Bight Port. This development comes in the face of a subsequent injunction by Justice Minnet Hafiz preventing government from assuming control of the Port. The Commerce Bight Port deals mainly deals with shipment of citrus products to Europe and other countries. We’ll have more on this story tomorrow.
