Another Chinese Shutdown on Sunday

There will be a country-wide shut down of the Chinese community on Sunday, October first so get your groceries and boledo before then. Chinese businesses will close its doors in response to two recent separate armed robberies, one which left Chinese businessman Bainan Wu dead on Monday night. Bainan was inside his small grocery shop at the corner of Vernon and Santa Barbara Streets when a lone gunman entered the store and demanded money. He did not get any loot and fled the scene, but not before firing a single shot that caught Bainan in his temple.  The Belize Chinese Association sent out a notice that reads, “In mourning of the death of our fellow countryman who was senselessly killed on twenty-fifth September 2017, the entire Chinese community and businesses countrywide will be closed for business in solidarity and respect for the deceased person’s funeral.” This shut down is not the first by the Chinese Community. Back in 2005, Chinese businesses closed up shop when twenty-six-year-old Lou Xiao Yue, better known as Susan Yue, was killed in Orange Walk.  And five years later in 2010, the killing of fourteen-year-old Hellen Yu in Belize City prompted fellow Chinese business owners to close down for a day of business. Another smaller shut down took place in 2011 when Zhou Ang Tan was killed in Orange Walk.
