Belize chairs Central American group
In news from Belmopan, a report from the confines of the Cabinet is that Belize has taken up the rotating presidency of the Central American Integration System, known as SICA. According to the release, an inter-ministerial commission has been appointed to ensure that Belize capitalizes on the appointment. That commission will be chaired by Ambassador Moises Cal, flanked by officials from each ministry or government body that does business with SICA member countries. It appears that the greatest benefit from Belize’s presidency of SICA will be the chance for us to politically assert ourselves as equals in Central America. Members of SICA include Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama with the Dominican Republic sitting as an observer and the Republic of China on Taiwan as an extra-regional observer.
