C.E.O. Admits Roles Mixed Up at Immigration
The Senate Special Select Committee called C.E.O. in the Ministry of Immigration and Nationality, Edmund Zuniga, to testify this morning. Chief of command behind Minister Godwin Hulse, he is responsible for setting up policy and procedure for an important ministry. Before his current post, Zuniga served as Auditor General and is therefore also familiar with that institution’s work. Asked to comment on the basis on which things went wrong in his current department, Zuniga told senators it came down to a mix-up in roles.

“What came across to me, having looked at the reports, is that there seemed to be an absence of – call it internal controls, particularly in the area of segregation of functions. What you could see from the reports is that several officers were allowed to perform functions that ran into other officers’ activities.”
