Fuller’s constitutional motion sidetracked
There’s an old adage popular in the legal profession, which says that anyone who chooses to defend himself instead of hiring a lawyer has a fool for a client. Independent Albert candidate Sydney Fuller may be feeling a bit foolish tonight as one day after he filed his own constitutional motion to have Marilyn Williams declared ineligible to run, the Supreme Court has struck out his application. Essentially, the court told Fuller that he should have waited and filed an election petition following Wednesday’s balloting, in the event that Williams happens to win the election. As for Fuller’s contention that Williams was unconstitutionally appointed to the Senate, due to her sworn allegiance as a naturalised U.S. citizen, the court ruled that since the Senate already has been dissolved there was no basis for action.
