Police Need Evidence to Charge Thieves/Murderers
On Monday, police told the media that they strongly believe the murder of businessman Amit Moryani in Orange Walk Town may have been committed by thieves who have also been operating in the Corozal District. Tonight that gut feeling holds, except that they are unable to act on the hunch and proceed with an arrest because they don’t have sufficient evidence to move against their suspects. Moryani was shot and killed on Friday night while attempting to protect his mother during a robbery attempt at P and P Supermarket.

“I know that several persons have been detained and they have been questioned, but for right now they have been released from custody because there is no other information coming to the police. Yes, we have a group of guys that we are working on and looking at them who we believe are the suspects. They have been brought in one by one and questioned, but currently we have to release them because we don’t have that evidence to charge them at this time.”

“Sir, can you disclose if police had access to any video footage or security camera footage from that very incident?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“Yes, police have viewed several footage in that area and that is what is assisting us in our investigation burglary over there.”
