Compol says cops are ready for election

Story Picture
While March fifth has been declared a holiday, one group of people who will be working around the clock are the men and women of the Police Department. Taking the responsibility seriously, Police Commissioner Carmen Zetina says his officers will be out in full force to ensure that law and order is maintained.

Carmen Zetina, Police Commissioner

“My projection is that we will run into thirty-six hours of work. Every member of the Police Department will be on standby as from that date until things return to normal. I have at my disposal the recruits; we have two intakes right now. They will be fully deployed for that day, so I think human resources wise, I have adequate manpower.”

“As you know, we have recently gotten some equipments to deal with public order and we have been undergoing training on public order. So I think we are set for any eventuality…The new vehicles that government had promised us are coming in early next week and according to our plan, all the vehicles will be fully engaged.”

Zetina says the members of his team will not tolerate any kind of political interference on election day and reminds everyone that inciting violence carries heavy penalties. The commissioner also reminds operators of liquor establishments that they are prohibited from selling alcoholic beverages between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on March fifth.
