Scout movement growing nationwide
They are a group of young people who don’t make the news everyday, but if their growing numbers are any indication, Belize’s scouting movement is not only alive, but doing very well. On the occasion of Scout Week, National Executive Hilberto Riverol explains some of the movement’s triumphs and tribulations.
Hilberto Riverol, National Scout Executive
“A few years ago we had about five hundred scouts. Today, we have about two thousand scouts, and growing. The problem is basically leadership, but we have managed to work around that. We have leaders wanting to get involved now and the movement is growing.”

“Why have we not heard about the Scouts throughout the year other than just one week per year?”
Hilberto Riverol
“I guess we have been a little slack on that. We have to be blamed. The Scouts are there, they are doing a lot of things, but we don’t give it that much publicity.”
This evening, the association handed over food packages to the Belize Red Cross and Alliance Against AIDS for distribution. On Wednesday, scouts will engage in community service projects in their respective areas. The week ends with fairs and exhibitions in each district on Saturday.
