Hurricane season 2009 opens
It’s the first of June and that means the start of the hurricane season. The silver lining is that the weatherman predicts an average year with projections for twelve named storms, six of which can potentially develop into hurricanes. And of those six, only two are likely to reach category three or higher. A plus for Belize this year, is that since February, the Met Service has been using the Doppler Radar. The Doppler will allow for more accurate and timely updates on any system that can affect the country. Storm names at the top of the list this year include Ana, Bill, Claudette, Danny and Erika. As always, the Met Service urges the public to be prepared.
