Hit and run leaves Corozal man dead

An elderly man is dead after he was knocked down on Friday night on the Northern Highway. According to police, sixty-nine year old Jesus Vasquez of Chan Chen Village was walking in the village when he was hit by a car. As Vasquez lay bleeding on the ground, suffering from serious head and body injuries, the vehicle did not stop. Police transported Vasquez to the Northern Regional Hospital, but authorities there pronounced him dead on arrival. Later that night, cops found the murder weapon parked in another area of Chan Chen. On Sunday, Ricardo Maldonado, a taxi driver of Santa Rita Village, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in to police. Charges against Maldonado are expected to be filed shortly.
