Shortly after one this afternoon, fire broke out at number ninety-three Boots Crescent in the Port Loyola area of Belize City. The blaze completely destroyed the property of Teresita and Reynaldo Soberanis. Assistant Fire Chief Ted Smith says they are still investigating to find the cause of the tragedy.

“The information I received was that they were not there, they weren’t at home at the time. It was a wooden structure encased in plywood. The extent of the fire, it was well developed, it quickly consuming the structure and spread to the nearby structure because of the radian heat. So there is not much we could have done other than try to contain it, preventing it from destroying other structure. We did that and contained the fire and extinguish it, but we could have save that one that was already engulfed in flames. Going down the boulevard, we could see the black smoke in the sky.”
