Two vehicles donated for highway patrol
Today, the Belize City Council took delivery of two high powered vehicles that should greatly enhance the Traffic Department’s ability to catch motorists who commit moving violations. The two used vehicles, a Chevy Caprice and Crown Victoria, both 1996 models, are a gift from the city of Evanston, Illinois. The vehicles, which come fully equipped with lights, sirens and a P.A. system, will be used to patrol parts of the two major highways that are within city limits. According to Traffic Manager, Kent Gabb, far too many road offences are being committed in the city.
Kent Gabb, Traffic Manager
“On the Northern and Western Highways between the two bridges and the city, if you go out there at anytime of the day or night, you see people speeding, you can see vehicles go down on the highways while they are driving with one light, and sometimes it can cause accidents with this one light; it looks like a motorcycle coming towards you. And these are moving violations we are talking about where we did not have the capabilities before to address these problems. Now these two vehicles will greatly enhance that capability in dealing with moving violations.”
The cars are valued at sixteen thousand dollars each.
