Former student to learn fate in attempted murder case next week

At the age of fifteen years, Inmas Espinal, then a second form student at Canaan High School, was arrested charged and remanded to prison for the March fifteenth, 2012 attempted murder of naturalized Belizean, eighteen-year-old Jose Antonio Sarabia. The trial of the now twenty-year old concluded today before Justice Adolph Lucas in the Supreme Court with a ruling to be handed down on December seventh. Sarabia accused the high school student of stabbing him and causing injuries which threatened his life. Prosecutor in the case Shanice Lovelle initially told the court that Espinal stabbed Sarabia once to the abdomen but later in trial, evidence was produced that the victim had been stabbed twice so there was contention as to who inflicted the second wound. Espinal maintained he inflicted one wound. His trial began on November third; the prosecution called four witnesses while the defence attorney, Hubert Elrington, cross-examined Sarabia for fourteen days.
