La Democracia resident succumbs to injuries after accident
A twenty-two year old man did not make it to his home in La Democracia on Saturday morning as he fell victim to a traffic accident on the Western Highway. Police would not confirm if it is a hit and run, but it is known that sometime between three and five, Keon Estrada was walking between miles twenty-eight and twenty-nine when he was hit by a vehicle. Estrada’s body was discovered shortly after five with severe head and body injuries. News Five spoke with Estrada’s sister, Francine, who said that the last time she saw her brother was Friday evening.
Francine Estrada, Sister of Deceased
“He was coming from Mahogany Heights, probably around two o’clock with some friends in a pickup along with my sister. They were heading towards Hattieville and what happen is, according to information their pickup broke after the Belize zoo, like coming to mile twenty-five, before mile twenty-five. He and my sister decided to walk home, but my sister went ahead of him. It was a hit and run, someone hit him and didn’t stop. That is all the information that we got.”

“And he died noh? What kind of injuries did he receive?”
Francine Estrada
“He received a very, very external head injured. His entire face was crushed, his head was crushed and he didn’t have any brains. His brain was all over the ground. When we went to see the body, it was a terrible scene.”
Sgt. Peter Serrano, Officer in Charge, Hattieville Police
“Initial investigations reveal that apparently a vehicle had ran over the body.”
Duane Moody
“Ran over it as in he was on the ground already?”
Sgt. Peter Serrano
“That’s difficult for me to say at this point but what I can surely say that the policeman found him lying down on the ground.”
Duane Moody
“Was there anybody at the scene?”
Sgt. Peter Serrano
“Nobody else was at the scene and as we speak the matter is presently under investigation.”
Up to news time no one has been detained for the crime. The family recently buried Keon’s cousin, Jose Garcia Junior, the six year old student of who was knocked down on May twenty-third by a speeding vehicle on Amara Avenue.
