Cayo man charged for illegal firearm
In more crime news, another incident involving guns has been reported in the Cayo District. Police say that on Monday, thirty-five year old James Smith walked onto the compound of the Valdez shop, in Santa Elena, brandishing a sawed off shotgun. Smith demanded to see one of the employees but, not surprisingly, no one dared come out. The security guard yelled at Smith to leave but the gunman’s response was to fire a shot in his direction. Luckily, he missed. Smith left the shop and ran away, but police quickly caught up with him and tonight, he is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a prohibited firearm. As to the motive behind this shooting, residents from the area tell News 5 that Smith suffers from bouts of mental illness.
