Berger alumni find new footballs
For the last four year the Berger 404 alumni council has been holding football matches for those youths who are considered to be at risk. The club is now looking to expand the programme beyond Belize City and today got a much needed donation to help meet its goal. This afternoon, the club received twenty-five footballs from Lionel Hamilton, the president of a social, cultural and sporting association called Cobra.

“Because we don’t have that many people that are willing to donate footballs to us right now or even throughout the course of the year. This year we are expanding our project, we are actually trying to raise one thousand footballs and Mr. Hamilton from the Cobra’s has decided that he will do his best to reach that thousand, but he don’t we’ll be needing a hell of a lot more here. We’re reaching Belmopan, and hopefully if our funds allow us, we’ll be doing a one-week mini camp in Punta Gorda this year. We’ve been asked to reach Punta Gorda this year and we’re making an attempt to do that.”
Lionel Hamilton, President, Cobra
“Cobra is organisation that was formed in New York. That was about a year and a half, two years ago. And what we decided to do, was to form a sister organisation here in Belize, also an NGO. Because we saw the need to help the youths of the country, basically, five to fifteen years.”
Shortly, the club will be embarking on a seed collecting tour for a reforestation project that is scheduled to get underway later this year.
