6th victim dies from Monday’s crash

The total number of people killed in Monday morning’s collision on the Western Highway has now reached six. Just after seven this morning Melvin Rodriguez, who had been on life support for the last three days, succumbed to his massive injuries. Rodriguez, an employee of a Belmopan construction firm, had been riding in the passenger seat of the company’s Kia truck when it ran into a Geo Tracker that was attempting to overtake a bus near mile twenty-eight. Three of his fellow workers, as well as the driver and passenger of the Tracker, perished as a result of the collision. Nine other passengers in the truck remain hospitalised. According to officials at the K.H.M.H., all the patients from the accident remain stable, while the condition of Mariano Cruz was today upgraded from critical to serious. A fund to assist families of the victims has been established by the Belmopan City Council. Viewers can make donations to account number 73-3877111 at the First Caribbean International Bank, formerly Barclays.
