Operation ACT Has Reduced Friction and Tension

Allen Whylie

The Belize Police Department, despite its many internal challenges this year, is beating its chest proudly and basking in the success of Operation ACT.  Much of that achievement was made by the men and women of law enforcement who continue to work steadfastly in keeping the citizenry safe.  The brass of the department, while acknowledging their dedication, also lauds the outcome.

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“Throughout the year, the Belize Police Department has utilized a combination of foot, motorcycles and motor vehicles, all in a preventative mode to stop crime, as well as to interdict offenders.  This has been coupled with the conducting of special operations aimed at apprehending wanted criminals, as well as targeting those individuals involved in the drug, firearm trade and gang violence.  In Belize City, as a result of a spike in gang rivalry as well as inter-gang rivalry which resulted in several persons being killed, a special operation codenamed ACT, Addressing Crime Together, was launched on October 27th, 2017 which has been very successful, as it has brought a sense of calm, as well as increased safety and security to the residents of Belize City, in particular on the south side which was the area impacted by these shootings and murders.  This success is due not only to the strategy employed, but primarily to the dedication and hard work by the personnel involved, as well as the cooperation of the citizens.”
