Clerk of Court Charged for Theft of Money from San Ignacio Magistrate Court

Sean Lord

A first class clerk employed with the Belize City Magistrate’s Court is out on bail tonight after being arraigned before Magistrate Hurl Hamilton on a single charge of theft.  Twenty-nine-year-old Sean Lord was visited by CIB personnel this morning when he arrived at work.  He was then escorted from his desk to San Ignacio where he was charged with the theft of two thousand, ten dollars.  It is alleged that on November fourteenth, Lord dishonestly appropriated that sum of money from the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court.  We understand that similar allegations have been made against him.  In 2016, Lord was placed on administrative leave for a period of ninety days when monies under his care had gone missing.  This afternoon, he pleaded not guilty and bail was granted to him in the sum of one thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount.  He was able to meet bail by four o’clock and is scheduled to return to the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court on February twenty-eighth, 2018.  As is the procedure for public officers, Lord is presently on interdiction pending the outcome of his case.
