Remembering Fareed Ahmad and Others at Late Evening Vigil

Now to the vigil which is underway on Euphrates Avenue in honor of Fareed.  The late-evening peace march is organized by family and friends of the Muslim brother who was shot and killed inside his vehicle in Hattieville on December twenty-seventh.  Dozens of customers, friends and family members descended on King Street for the short procession to The Real Barbershop, a business that Fareed ran on Euphrates Avenue for the better part of twenty years.

“In regards to the vigil itself, it‘s an opportunity where Belizeans can come together and stand for something that is right, you know, in memory of Fareed.  But not just for Fareed, but especially knowing the circumstances around Fareed‘s death and also having full knowledge that Fareed wasn‘t the first to be executed that way.  I believe that there are other family members whose questions remain unanswered at this point, around questionable deaths of their loved ones at the same hands of these law enforcement officials.  I believe it‘s a start, especially beginning at the new year, the beginning of the new year, for us as Belizeans to start over, start clean, do something that is worthwhile and during the vigil, at the end of the vigil we‘ll have guest speakers who will speak on Fareed and share their own light of the person they know Fareed as.”
