CitCo Leads Clean-Up near Cinderella Plaza

In news from the Belize City Council, residents of the area north of Cinderella Plaza up to the Barracks, including Kelly Street, Baymen Avenue, Wilson Street, Hunter’s Alley, Matron Roberts Street, Calle Al Mar and Simon Lamb Street should expect to see personnel from the Council and Ministry of Health in their area on Saturday morning. The purpose is an all-weekend clean-up campaign targeting unhealthy garbage and drains in the area. With more here is City Councilor Jason Edwards.

“The clean-up campaign started approximately two years ago, and what prompted us – the Belize City Council and the Ministry of Health – to do this, was because we had cases of dengue popping up throughout Belize City. With that said and done, I brought it up to my fellow colleagues and the Mayor, and we came up with a plan to do a continuous clean-up campaign throughout the City. Since then, we have completed clean-up campaigns on approximately ninety streets through Belize City, which involves Southside and Northside, and we have taken out over a hundred and ninety truckloads of debris out of Belize City. Now, this clean-up campaign is not just a regular clean-up campaign; whenever we go through different streets, residents have the opportunity to bring out anything that they don’t want – which includes refrigerators, beds, furniture, whatever it is that is taking up space unnecessarily in your yard, we will take it out for you. And this is something we want to continue doing, and it’s a way to actually start keeping our City clean. And at the same time, while we are doing the clean-up campaign, the Ministry of Health joins us and they also treat the drains and do the rat poisoning along with us, so we get to kill three birds with one stone.”

Start-time is seven a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
