Suspected burglar collared by Cayo cops
Tonight the prime suspect in a string of home burglaries in the Cayo District is behind bars. According to San Ignacio police, thirty-eight year old Rodman Herbert has been terrorizing residents on the Western Highway between Floral Park and Esperanza Village. On News Year’s eve, according to authorities, Herbert was a particularly busy man…breaking into three different houses in Esperanza to steal cash, jewellery and cameras. No one was hurt in the attacks, but victims have positively identified Herbert as the culprit since he did not wear a mask. Police launched a manhunt and captured Herbert late last week in a pasture behind Central Farm. He resisted arrest and has subsequently been charged with assault of a police officer, as well as burglary, aggravated burglary and armed robbery. None of the stolen items have been recovered, and get this…police suspect the weapon he used was a very realistic looking toy gun. Herbert has pleaded guilty to assault and sentenced to three months at Hattieville Prison. He will answer to the other charges in the Supreme Court during the next session. News 5 understands that Herbert, believed to be a Belize City resident, was only recently released from Hattieville Prison.
