Tourism pioneer George Bevier dead at 74
Tonight we regret to announce the death of one of the pioneers in Belize’s tourism industry. George Bevier, seventy-four year old proprietor of Rum Point Inn, on the Placencia Peninsula, died early this morning at the K.H.M.H. He had been battling cancer for several years. George and his wife Corol opened Rum point Inn in 1974 and built it into one of the area’s largest and most highly regarded properties. The couple was honoured recently by the Belize Tourism Board for their impressive record of achievement. A funeral service and burial will be held at the resort on Tuesday morning at eleven.
