Family Court Complaints Increase

Marjorie Vasquez

Vasquez contends that neither the attorney nor her daughter were called prior to the impromptu afternoon court session, and thus lost their chance to tell their side of the story. Today, she told us that the child is with her father, but because of the interim order granting him sole custody, they have no idea how the child is doing and whether she is safe. She says that the stories about Family Court, created twenty-eight years ago, are out there and multiplying and she wants the authorities to take action.

Marjorie Vasquez, Family Member

“We were never apprised of the fact that it was going to be heard – nobody called us; nobody called the lawyer and they know who the lawyer is because we have already given letters to the court.  We will not let it go like this. But it has to be brought out; people have to know; sitting there in Family Court, I was shocked how many people are being taken advantage of, because people were talking. This is the [second] time I have been inside that court – I went there before when I got custody of my kids. But my goodness, how could they do this to people?”

Vasquez says they have another court date in February but they have filed their own counter-application to be heard next Thursday.
