Benque man dies after crashing into house
A traffic accident on the Western Highway has claimed the life of one man and left another in the hospital, after their vehicle crashed into a house. Police say that just before 9:00 p.m. on January first, twenty year old Manuel Sosa was driving from San Ignacio to Benque Viejo when he lost control of his Toyota pickup and ran head-on into a home on the outskirts of the town. When the cops arrived on the scene, Sosa was still trapped behind the wheel. Rescuers managed to cut him free, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Ignacio Hospital. Three other people were with Sosa at the time, and one of them, twenty-one year old Antonio Ochaeta was admitted to ward. He is listed in a stable condition.
In related news, another driver who knocked down a pedestrian on December twenty-second has been charged. Thirty-seven year old Elias Alamilla has been charged with driving without due care and attention, failure to stop and render aid and operating a vehicle without proper brakes, and police have already indicated that more charges will be added to that list. Alamilla turned himself into police and admitted that he had knocked down a man on Coney Drive. The victim was transferred to the K.H.M.H., but later died. He has since been identified as forty-seven year old Howell August of San Ignacio.
