Young Mother Avoids Jail on Home Invasion Charge

Shereffa Jex

Twenty-four-year-old Shereffa Jex was read charges of aggravated burglary and two counts of unlawful imprisonment for a reported home invasion in the Buttercup section of Burrell Boom. She is accused of unlawfully entering the residence of Marisela Salvador along with others, carrying a knife, and removing a metal knife, a kitchen knife and two machetes, and proceeding to hold two men hostage during the attack – an adult, Leeroy Young, and a minor boy. Young told police that the two men along with Jex forcibly held him by his shirt collar and marched him into the house. Along with Salvador and her sons, he was then beaten up and questioned about a gold bracelet for about twenty minutes, after which they left. But Jex cut a dispirited figure before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer, insisting that she did not know what kind of a mess she would be dragged into. Swayed by attorney Leeroy Banner’s arguments that she is presently breastfeeding her two year old and would be distraught to be separated for a short period, the Chief Magistrate set bail at four thousand dollars. She was ordered to stay away from the virtual complainants in the case.  Jex was able to meet bail and is due back in court on April fifth, 2018.
