Mario Vernon Death Investigation Still Open
An internal investigation continues into the shooting death of Mario Vernon Junior, which occurred in Punta Gorda on the night of January thirteenth. Vernon was shot by Police Constable Tevin Aranda in a most callous way and his body dragged several yards before it was dumped into the back of a police pickup and taken to the morgue. The initial version from the police is that Vernon Junior was in possession of a firearm and was killed because the police responders felt threatened. The family and witnesses say that Vernon was unarmed. So what are the investigators finding out?
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
