Story PictureMurder There is another murder to report in Belize City. Wednesday night, an epileptic was murdered as he approached his home. The victim in this latest homicide is thirty year old Gilbert Olivera of Dean Street address. Olivera was reportedly discovered lying on the street, at the corner of Prince and Plues Street. And while Olivera’s family says he was an epileptic, his sister feels he was targeted because he was an eyewitness to a crime.

Sheena Johnson
“As far as I understand he does get threats from some case weh suppose to call up, some witness stuff noh. He was a witness in some case. I don’t know which case, I don’t know nothing about it. So I think that’s what caused his death.”

Neighbours told News Five that they heard the blast that killed Olivera but thought at first that it was a dynamite. However, when they came outside they saw him lying on the street and no one else around. Olivera was heading home from a brother’s house on Cemetery Road and was just about two minutes walk from his gate when he was gunned down. Police have detained one person in connection with the incident.
