12 hurt in weekend accidents on Western Hwy.

Separate traffic accidents on the Western Highway on Sunday have left twelve people recovering from various head and body injuries. According to the police, the first accident happened between miles twenty and twenty-one. Reports are that just after lunch on Sunday, construction worker George Andrews was driving his pickup truck to Belmopan when he came face to face with a Suburban S.U.V. that was trying to overtake another vehicle. Andrews says he swerved off the road to avoid a head on collision. but when he tried to get back on, lost control and overturned. Andrews escaped unhurt but his three passengers were rushed to the K.H.M.H. with suspected broken bones and back pain.

The second accident occurred five hours later, near mile forty-four in the village of Cotton Tree. In frightening similarity, Windell McDougal told police that he too had to bang a hard right to avoid crashing into Toyota Camry that was trying to overtake another vehicle. But McDougal wasn’t so lucky…he collided head on with the car. McDougal received a cut on his head, while his three passengers suffered a broken leg and several cuts and body injuries. The driver of the Camry, identified as Euglogio Solis, and his four passengers sustained wounds to their faces and bodies. All those injured received medical attention and are said to be in a stable condition.
