Film Festival brings variety to Bz. screens

Story Picture
In the United States, it’s Sundance…in France, Cannes and soon, maybe Belize will be known for its international film festival. That’s what organizers hope anyway. Beginning on January thirtieth through to the third of February, the Belize Arts Council will feature films from Austria to Venezuela, and will also include workshops by some of the directors and producers. According to festival director Suzette Zayden, the event will be a kaleidoscope of culture.

Suzette Zayden, Festival Director

“I feel that our responsibility is to the Belizean public to be exposed as often as possible to cultures from other countries in order for them to appreciate their own culture. So the idea was to get thirteen films from different countries with not more than two per country, so that they could see how someone lives in Taiwan, how someone lives in Austria, how someone lives in Italy, someone in Cuba, in Mexico. And they would see that even though the circumstances are different, that we are all the same. These films are all human stories, families who love each other, who hate each other, who argue just like you see in your own house; they are universal stories that will touch everybody.”

Single movie tickets are ten dollars each. A festival pass for thirteen admissions is priced at sixty-five dollars. And hey, if you know somebody who likes to go to the movies, it could be a cool Christmas present. All showings will take place at the Princess Cinema.
